Almost all legal cases brought against him will be resolved by Donald Trump’s win on Wednesday, at least for the four decades he is in office.
Trump, the first former US president to face criminal charges, spent the majority of this year facing four concurrent indictments for alleged extortion, including claims that he attempted to cover up a quiet cash payment made to prostitute Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign and his efforts to overturn his election defeat in 2020. He became the first former US president to be found guilty of a felony after a New York judge found him guilty of falsifying company information related to Daniels ‘ payment in May.
Within two hours of taking the oath of office, Trump, a Republican, had promised to flame US specific counsel Jack Smith, who had spearheaded the federal trials over his unsuccessful attempt to halt the engagement of classified documents after he left. Trump entered a not-guilty plea on all charges, citing political motivations as the indictments were premised.
Trump will have the authority to fire Smith and shut down federal investigations against him, but he wo n’t have the same authority over the hush money investigation in New York or the Georgia case where he is being tried for trying to overturn his state’s loss in 2020. However, because of his unique position as president, it is doubtful that he will face legal repercussions during his term in office.
Trump’s attorneys are anticipated to request Justice Juan Merchan’s request to postpone his scheduled Nov. 26 imprisonment, which could result in him receiving up to four years in captivity. In the background of the US, sending a president-elect before Inauguration Day would be unprecedented, and legal experts anticipate a delay in the reading.
Trump is also accused of spreading false accusations of election fraud in federal prosecutor in Washington after losing to Democrat Joe Biden in the presidential election in 2020.
In the Georgia criminal situation, prosecutors charged Trump with violating state-developed organized crime laws to allegedly retaliate against him in the state’s election-hearing district. Trump wo n’t be able to put an end to the prosecution, but his lawyer has already stated in court that he will seek to halt any Trump-related activities in response to the argument that a president should n’t be subject to a criminal prosecution while in office.
