Apple released the experimental version of iOS 18.2 on November 4, giving us the first look at the artificial intelligence functions that will be available for use in general on Apple’s mobile devices in December. Apple also distributed the development environment XCode 16.2 alpha 2 and accompanying beta produces for the iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision.
What does apps 18 alpha 2 add?
Expanded AI functions, including ChatGPT’s connectivity with Siri, are features of the android 18.2 beta. Among the innovative Apple Intelligence AI functions are:
- Image Playground and Image Wand provide conceptual AI photo editing and generation devices.
- Genmoji enables users to create symbols using healthy vocabulary prompts or based on real-world examples.
- Writing Tools adds AI rewriting, editing, and text summaries to different uses.
- Inclusion for ChatGPT for Siri. This is intended to allow the words helper to respond to natural language and address some writing questions.
apps 18 beta 2 even adds:
- The new lens controls allow you to focus on an image with one click and get a second. Although this evokes an analog camcorder, time will tell if it feels clumsy on the phone.
- Users can now use Find My to promote the site of a lost product with someone else. Users can access a link sent by it to any system, no just Apple’s.
- Gmail-like group pages are added in a new layout for the Mail game.
- Explore the new settings and Graphic changes that are available.
These AI characteristics coincide with offerings from Apple’s competition. However, it will be interesting to see if Siri commitment opens the door to the use of unique or even agentic AI voice signals.
However, Apple notes that requesting ChatGPT to create pictures in Writing Tools does not work in the discharge records for iOS 18.2. Users may also need to restart their machine after installing the alpha in order for messages to appear in the Messages app.

When I’m in an aircraft for a job vacation or out in the city for the day, I can see this as a nice, minor decrease in range anxiety. 9to5Mac searched the beta’s code for the charge time estimate, so do n’t expect the feature to be available in the beta or the public release. However, with “intelligence” in the title, I wonder whether Apple considered attaching AI to this estimate—but that may just be a matter of packaging.
