Pakistan has stated that it can assist in bridging the differences between the two world power in an effort to achieve a balance between its ties with the US and China.
Over their efforts to increase their international control, Washington and Beijing have strained relations. The tensions stem mainly from disagreements over trade, Taiwan, the South China Sea and China’s Belt and Road Initiative ( BRI ).
Pakistan has partnered with the US to support its military cooperation and counterterrorism efforts, but it rely heavily on China to solve its economic problems. Through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor ( CPEC ), Islamabad has strengthened its economic ties to Beijing.
Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, the Pakistani embassy to Washington, was cited by state-run Radio Pakistan as saying that” Pakistan has the potential to serve as a gate between China and the United States.”
The statement was made shortly after Pakistan’s unusual office announced on Thursday that Pakistan’s ties with China would n’t be affected by Donald Trump’s win in the US presidential election. When questioned on the subject, Pakistan international department spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch had responded,” Pakistan’s relations with China are all-weather. They serve as a stabilizing force for our international policy because they are tactical.
Baloch claimed that Islamabad should not even think about how any local developments in other nations might impact its relationship with China.
Pakistan manages its proper relationships with both countries while enduring a long economic crisis as a result of the complex conflict between the US and China.
We look forward to more enhancing and expanding our relationship with the US in all areas because our relations with the US are years old. We look forward to a fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation between Pakistan and the US, as the deputy prime minister ( Ishaq Dar ) stated in a tweet yesterday.
Pakistan and the US had close ties in the Cold War, but their relationship was even put to the test by several pressing problems.
In recent years, the two countries ‘ connections had deteriorated as a result of Islamabad’s accusations that it helped the Taliban take control of Kabul in 2021. When Pakistan’s imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan claimed the Biden administration planned his execution through a parliamentary vote of no confidence in April 2022, a state that the US denied.
