On Wednesday, Joe Biden, the president-elect, will meet with Donald Trump to discuss domestic and international policy issues, with a special emphasis on ensuring Ukraine’s ongoing support.
Jake Sullivan, the incoming president’s national security adviser, confirmed the meeting on CBS News ‘” Face the Nation,” stating that Biden wants to discuss pressing international issues with the incoming president and ensure a smooth transfer of power. Ukraine is expected to be a crucial issue, according to press information.
Sullivan stressed Biden’s devotion to advocating for Ukraine, saying:
In the next 70 days, President Biden may have the opportunity to demonstrate to the Congress and the incoming administration that the United States should never leave Ukraine and that leaving Ukraine would lead to more unrest in Europe.
Trump has recently criticized the level of US funding for Ukraine, which aligns with some Democratic lawmakers ‘ doubts about the continued financial responsibility. The Biden administration’s task will be to secure future support plans for Ukraine given that Republicans are poised to control the Senate and possibly the House.
The appointment comes after the issue has gotten worse since the start of the conflict, with Ukraine striking Moscow with its largest drone attack ever.
The goal of Wednesday’s meeting may have substantial impact on US involvement in the Ukraine conflict going forward.
