A US federal judge sentenced 22-year-old Jack Teixeira, a Massachusetts Air National Guard part, to 15 years in prison on Tuesday for leaking a mine of defined Pentagon files.
Specialists claim that Teixeira attempted to cover his actions by dumping his electronic devices in the dumpster next to his home after first typing out classified documents he accessed, and then sharing pictures of data marked” Top Secret” and” Secret.”
Teixeira was given a sentence for wearing an orange jumpsuit, but he did n’t actually react when he was in court.
In accordance with the Espionage Act, Teixeira entered a guilty plea earlier this year to six counts of willful retention and distribution of national security data.
Before the judge, Teixeira said,” I wanted to apologize for all the hurt that I brought and caused.”
I accept whatever the outcomes and duty will be on my own, he continued.
A very high rate, in my opinion.
The document drip from 2023, which involved providing equipment to Ukraine, was the most devastating breach in more than a decade.
The Biden administration was forced to rush in a bid to contain the diplomatic and military consequences as a result of the security breach, which raised questions about Washington’s ability to safeguard its mainly closely guarded secrets.
Acting US Attorney Joshua Levy stated at a press conference following the punishment that Teixeira “has paid a very hefty price for the legislation he broke and the damage he caused.”
” People who willfully threatens national security by disseminating classified information without authorization may suffer serious consequences,” he added.
