Nevertheless, the Democrats face an uphill struggle. Trump has called on the Senate to end verification, saying,” Democrats are looking to computer through their magistrates”.
Senate Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell, are expected to put up solid criticism. During his time as the majority leader, McConnell was instrumental in confirming all of Trump’s contenders.
Adding to the pressure, Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat who generally sides with Republicans on important issues, has said he will simply vote for nominations with republican support. With a thin 51-49 lot, Democrats have much room for error.
The verification debate’s result is still a mystery.
