On Thursday, INSIGHT UK, a cultural movement for American Hindus and Indians, wrote to the Oxford Union Society to voice its concerns regarding the future Kashmiri freedom conversation. According to an ANI review, the team questioned the addition of two listeners, Muzzammil Ayyub Thakur and Zafar Khan, citing alleged hyperlinks to violence and potential injury to the dignity of the discussion.
The World Kashmir Freedom Movement leader, Thakur, was accused of expressing hate speech and affiliation with businesses that were linked to terrorism in the email.
INSIGHT UK stressed studies by Scotland Yard, the Charity Commission, and the FBI into Thakur’s companies, saying:
” Muzzammil is the leader of the World Kashmir Freedom Movement, which, along with another firm called Mercy Universal, was founded by his parents and investigated by Scotland Yard, the Charity Commission, and the FBI for relations with extremists”.
Zafar Khan, chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front ( JKLF ) Diplomatic Bureau, is also under scrutiny. The JKLF was linked to the British minister Ravindra Mhatre’s assassination and abduction in 1984, according to INSIGHT UK.
The email claimed that holding this discussion with these speakers violated the Oxford Union’s function as a forum for productive discussion and that it violates sovereignty. The Oxford Union should reevaluate the conversation and its speaker lineup, according to INSIGHT UK.
The Oxford Union, the debating body at Oxford University, announced in a post on Instagram that the group will hold a debate on the subject of” This house believes in the independent state of Kashmir.”
” On Thursday, 14th November at 20.30, we will be hosting our Week 5 discussion on the action’ this apartment believes in an impartial state of Kashmir’. Since 1947, the continent has been plagued by the Kashmir conflict, a present of British colonial rule, which has led to numerous wars. The continued press for Kashmiri democracy has sustained a long-standing battle, rooted in the country’s mission for self-determination and independence. This has led to frequent turmoil, human rights concerns, and renewed desire for independence among the Kashmiris. The community still has a strong desire for peace even as nuclear-armed neighbors compete for control and political influence. The Oxford Union responded to the enduring issue by posting a picture of an independent Kashmir on Instagram.
