North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has instructed the “mass generation” of suicide attack drones, according to state advertising information on Friday, after he observed a check of the program the day before.
Kim oversaw tests of drones developed by North Korea’s Unmanned Aerial Technology Complex ( UATC ) that were intended to target both land and sea targets.
According to the Asian Central News Agency (KCNA ),” He stressed the necessity to establish a serial production system as soon as possible and launch full-scale large manufacturing.”
” Death uavs” are drones equipped with munitions and designed to fall into enemy goals, functioning likewise to guided weapons.
These weapons, which are also known as loitering armaments, have been extensively used in the Middle East and the Ukraine wars.
For the first time since August, North Korea has these suicide drones on display, according to experts who believe this capacity may be a result of its growing alliance with Russia. A thorough strategic partnership between North Korea and Russia, including a mutual defense agreement, was recently signed by their leaders in June.
The death attack drones are intended to specifically attack any foe goals on the ground and in the sea, according to KCNA.
Kim described the drones as an “easy to employ …component of dazzling strength”, citing their relatively low cost and wide range of applications, as reported by KCNA.
In 2022, North Korea sent robots across the border, and South Korea’s government was unable to shoot them down, citing their small size. Since then, South Korea has established a helicopter operations order to combat this growing threat.
North Korea’s military decried the use of drones to fly advertising flyers over its country earlier this year, denying that claim.
In October, North Korea modified its law to define South Korea as a “hostile” position, reflecting worsening relations since Kim declared Seoul his government’s “principal foe” in January.
