The Hill provided its users with a summary of what the president-elect has stated he intends to do on Day One, in contrast to various press sources ‘ coverage of Donald Trump’s traditional election, the thrill of victory, and the horror of battle. This broad to-do roster includes restoring British energy independence, pardoning the Jan. 6 protest, and, of course, cracking down on illegal immigration.
I would like to offer a reasonable inclusion to this amazing agenda: Trump may issue an executive order to recover his all-but-forgotten 1776 Commission. Young Americans ‘ historical and civic illiteracy is a clear and present danger to the Republic and cannot be allowed to continue, given the Democrats ‘ efforts to make the electorate believe that Trump’s reelection is a” threat to democracy.”
A Doomed Initiative
Trump created the commission the day before Election Day in 2020 with the purpose of” ]establishing ] a clear historical record of an exceptional Nation dedicated to the ideas and ideals of its founding” . , Its goal was to provide a much-needed corrective to anti-American propaganda masquerading as history such as the “1619 Project”, whose “radicalized view of American history lacks perspective, obscures virtues, twists motives, ignores or distorts facts, and magnifies flaws, resulting in the truth being concealed and history disfigured” . , The commission’s report, published two days before Trump left office, sketched out a basic curriculum that balanced American exceptionalism as reflected in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution with the darker aspects of our history, such as slavery and Jim Crow.
Predictably, the common defendants had a hissy fit. The committee was accused of “whitewashing traditional stories,” according to professional race-baiter Ibram X. Kendi, who described the report as” the next great lie from a Trump administration of excellent lays.”
The American Historical Association slammed the report as a” call for a form of government indoctrination [that would ] elevate ignorance about the past to a civic virtue,” making the cutest of all.
The new leadership understood the message well and quickly. President Biden spiked the commission and the majority of his predecessor’s another common-sense plans the day after taking the oath of office.
You Can’t Love Something You Do n’t Know
Leftist educators have spent years undermining their kids ‘ devotion to their home countries. According to Trump’s executive purchase, “authoritarian fantasies of government and society… become extremely attractive alternatives to self-government based on the consent of the people.” This is the purpose of this ongoing subversion.
In Book IV of his classic The Spirit of Laws, Montesquieu made a crucial point about republic knowledge:
It is in a democratic state that the whole power of education is required…Virtue is a self-renunciation, which is ever lengthy and painful. This virtue can be defined as a love for the rules and our nation. Because of the constant preference for people over private interests, love is the basis for all private virtues… The state is primarily entrusted to private citizens in these areas. A government is now like any other system: to maintain it, we may love it. So, everything depends on fostering this adore in a republic, and education should be its main activity. ]emphasis added]
The academic establishment’s refusal of this mystic advice has borne terrible fruit. British middle students have never been identified as “proficient” in these subjects in the 30 years that the National Assessment of Educational Progress has been measuring results in these disciplines.
In an expected relationship, over the past 20 years the number of individuals claiming to get “extremely pleased” to be an American has dropped from 70 percent to a meager 39 percent. The most notable example of patriotism is found in Americans between the ages of 18 and 34, where the percentage drops to just 18 %. No question the US military struggles to achieve its selection targets. Why would a young person choose to provide a country they have been made to believe is bad?
A Needed Vaccination of Tyranny
The Democrats have attacked our country’s organisations using all this planted knowledge. In a projectionist fashion that is uncommon when party leaders savor the death of British politics in the wake of a Trump presidency.
There is more than enough reason for concern in their language, even if their dishonesty was n’t overt in their numerous but fruitless attempts to defeat Donald Trump. This is the party’s current people ‘ routine demands for the Supreme Court to be dissolved and the Electoral College to be abolished. Flirtations with even more extreme “reforms”, like as making Senate picture based on a country’s population, are becoming more popular. Add to this the political violence propensity of the left, and the result is a group that is on the verge of becoming tyrannical.
A body of law that comprehends the causes and hows of the British system is the only thing that can stop this extremism. Anyone who has a thorough understanding of American history and civics will immediately recognize authoritarian ideas as betraying them and accept them correctly.
Reminding the citizens of America’s history why the country was and is still great is the first step in restoring it. Trump’s election-day authority shows that the person is not yet at the end of his road. A resurrected 1776 Commission can provide the potent treatments it needs to survive and prosper as our nation approaches its 250th day.
