A school official inquired about how students might consider that message severely.
A University of Virginia pupil was informed late last month that he had been contacted by the university’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights.
His alleged act? Wearing a hat with the slogan” Make America Christian Again”
Individuals can submit” complaints of discrimination, discrimination, and abuse” through the anonymous reporting system at UVA, known as” Just Report It.”
According to , Bacon’s Rebellion, Simon Goldstein — of mixed Jewish and Christian heritage — saw the hat advertised on X ( Twitter ) and thought it was” a play on’ Make America Great Again.'” He therefore purchased it.
But UVA’s Nicole Thompson,” compliance director” of the aforementioned civil rights office, emailed Goldstein about his wearing the hat around campus, letting him know she wanted to have an “informal conversation ]… ] to discuss the concerns that were reported” and to give him” an opportunity to share ]his ] perspective or any information and ask questions”.
Thompson ( pictured ) asked Goldstein why he chose to wear the hat … and “if]he ] could see how people may perceive that message negatively”.
Although he noted that only one student had experienced a negative reaction to the hat of his knowledge, Goldstein said he does n’t make decisions about what to wear based on whether someone’s feelings are hurt.
Before the visit ended, Thompson— whom Goldstein noted was” not aggressive or threatening” — asked if he “plan]ned ] on making any changes” to his clothes.

Goldstein said he took Thompson’s query as a suggestion “in the gentlest way possible that ]he ] should remove the hat”. But he told her he “had no regrets” and “plan]ned ] on continuing to wear the hat”.
From the post:
]Goldstein ] found the incident troubling. The OECR if have opened the case straight away knowing that he had every right to wear a helmet to express his religious beliefs.
Unfortunately, the company in charge of protecting people from abuse on the basis of church subjected , Goldstein , to a 20-minute Zoom call and applied gentle pressure to prevent expressing his Religious view.
If I reported a scholar for chanting “from the valley to the sea” and spreading related murderous messages, or if I reported a pupil for wearing gay pride-supporting clothing, he says, it is extremely unlikely that a meeting may take place. Although those are out of bounds, intimidating a Christian learner is perfectly suitable in today’s society. Unfortunately, this is where we stand, but I will not be intimidated, and I will never again down. Jesus did return, and it is my hope that all repent and believe”.
To Goldstein’s place about “genocidal messaging”, earlier this year UVA art history professor Christa Robbins canceled school “in cooperation” with the Israel protest, sell, restrictions movement, and out of her “own sympathies with the people of Palestine”. The UVA Office of Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights contacted her, but it’s not known if she did so.
Even earlier in 2024, UVA settled with an student who was deemed criminal by a school court in 2020 of” threatening” Black Lives Matter protesters. BLM/”fat liberation advocate” Zyahna Bryant had claimed that the student had claimed that the protesters would “make great f*cking speed spots” ( great f*cking speed bumps ).
