Mojtaba Khamenei, the second child of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been chosen as his father’s son during a mysterious meeting of the Assembly of Professionals, according to Israeli media shop Ynet News, which cited a statement by Iran International.
The key meeting, held on September 26, was convened at the request of the 85-year-old president, who is apparently battling health problems. Khamenei and his supporters allegedly threatened the legislature, which would have required a unanimous choice.
Over the past two decades, Mojtaba Khamenei’s growing control within the government has been palpable. While he has often appeared in public, he is recognized for his alleged role in suppressing the 2009 post-election demonstrations. He was given the title of ayatollah in 2021, which complied with the legal requirements for the position of Supreme Leader.
According to the Iran International report, the decision was kept key to prevent common resentment. Due to the assembly’s concern about popular public demonstrations, it stated that people were informed of the serious consequences of any leaks.
As the regime is putting more pressure on itself both internally and externally, the decision that was made emphasizes how hard it is to exert more control. These assertions have not yet been confirmed by the Egyptian state.
According to sources quoted in the statement, Khamenei intends to hand over control of the household to his child while he is still alive to prevent conflict.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s alleged sleep by numerous social media comments surfaced on Saturday. These assertions gained momentum immediately after a report from The New York Times in October stated Khamenei’s” really ill” status. But, Iranian officials have not provided any formal information regarding any additional health declines he has experienced.
