The Amherst Student reported that march planner Willow Delp claimed that students are “watching this country’s uglyest personal come to light as its reputation as a discriminatory, sexist settler colony.” ( Delp serves as the paper’s managing editor. )
Delp claimed that the deep contempt of the other has been ingrained in American culture for centuries. ” We stand up to claim that this is unacceptable”.
Additionally, Delp claimed that a “recent rise in hate speech across the country,” like as racist language emails sent to black students at several U.S. schools, contributed to this anger.
Gracie Rowland of the group Reproductive Justice Alliance implored female ( and, presumably, female-identifying ) rally attendees to “get]the pill], put it in your bag, and just have it in case someone needs it because we do n’t know what kind of times we’ll be entering”. ( In Massachusetts, abortion is legal up to 26 weeks. )
Isabelle Anderson of the Amherst Young Democratic Socialists addressed the audience,” My grief is true. Your pain is true, and we’re not only. We will not allow our school to persuade us that today is normal.

A number of students at the rally expressed shock at the college’s handling of the election, including the decision to hold classes the day after the results were announced.
” Like many of you, we’ve been very disappointed by the lack of response by the administration. Them sending an email the night before election night and saying,’ Sorry you’re anxious. Here’s counseling center open hours,’ and then not saying anything the day after, when people were literally crying in class and in public, really sucked”, said Anderson.
Additionally, students claimed that going to class was inappropriate because of the election results.
” I have n’t gone to class in two days because none of my professors talked about what was happening, and that was really upsetting”, Anderson added.
One student, however, was thankful her French teacher just” sat in silence with us” after the election and “asked how we were feeling”. The student claimed that after she left, she thought,” I got this.”
