A new constitution was approved by Ghanaian voters on Sunday by a flood of 91.8 %.

In a coup that put past president Ali Bongo Ondimba under house arrest, military officers seized control in August 2023. Bongo was charged with reckless government and significant larceny by the junta.
A week later, the ousted president was granted charitable release, allowing him to go abroad for medical treatment.
Bongo came to power in 2009 after the death of his father, Omar Bongo Ondimba, who had ruled Gabon for 41 times.
