This year appears to be International Fraud Awareness Week in today’s version of times you’ve previously heard of. That’s a new scam, also, for me, but it’s probably worth discussing because swindlers are becoming more ruthless and daring with their schemes.

According to a Gallup survey,” Financial scams are one of the most prevalent crimes affecting U.S. people in 2023, with 15 % reporting that at least one member of their family has fallen victim,” and 8 % claiming that it has happened to themselves personally.
One English cell phone provider is retaliating. As part of its continuous” Turn the Scammers” plan, O2 has revealed its fresh” Head of Scammer Relations”. She’s not what you might think. In the most precise sense, Daisy is an AI chatbot.
” Created using a range of cutting-edge AI systems and trained with the help of one of YouTube’s best-known scambaiters, Jim Browning, Daisy is a vivid AI Granny fully indistinguishable from a genuine people”, O2 explains in a media release. O2 has put Daisy to operate answering shady calls around the clock because she is able to communicate with swindlers in real time without the help of her makers.

Daisy’s work is sophisticated. She is employed by O2 to pass on the time to scam artists who do n’t have the opportunity to pursue real victims.
According to O2, Daisy has:
…told apprehensive callers fake personal information, including bank details that were fake, while discouraged scammers rambled about her family. Daisy has prevented the thieves from targeting real subjects and, most importantly, has exposed the common techniques used so clients can better protect themselves by tricking them into believing they were defrauding a real person and playing on swindlers ‘ preconceptions about older individuals.

People may words scammers data to O2 to become Daisy’s next patients. Additionally, the business is launching a campaign to educate more people about how to record and avoid scams.
To protect our customers, O2’s Director of Fraud, Murray Mackenzie, stated,” We’re committed to playing our portion in stopping the swindlers by investing in everything from network systems to AI-powered email contact recognition.” Daisy, our newest addition to our fraud-prevention team, outwits and outmanoeuvrs scammers at their own cruel game by keeping them on the line.
O2 introduced Daisy in a video in which reality TV star Amy Hart, herself a victim of fraud, shows what the” AI Granny” is capable of. According to Hart, “it’s frightening to see how far scammers will go, stealing anything, from passwords to bank details, no matter who they are speaking to.”

A longer demonstration, perhaps not the hour-long one, would be nice. If it’s remotely effective, it can help save people from falling for scams. We need something comparable here in the US if Daisy can acquaint scammers in the UK. Perhaps our mobile providers will pay attention and join the fight.
