A vehicle incident outside Yong’an Primary School in Changde, Hunan state, on Tuesday night left many children injured as they arrived for lessons. Authorities are still trying to determine the number of deaths and the circumstances surrounding the collision, according to Reuters, citing CCTV information.
In China, where institutions have recently experienced a string of violent incidents, there are growing concerns about problems targeting individuals.
On Saturday, a stabbing at a vocational institution in Wuxi, Jiangsu state, left eight dead and 17 injured. The suspect, a 21-year-old former pupil, apparently attacked in anger over intellectual and financial concerns. A person in Zhuhai quickly crashed his car into a crowd, killing 35 people and injuring 43 at the same time.
In September, a knife strike in Shanghai resulted in three mortality and 15 wounds, while a Chinese boy was fatally stabbed on his way to school in Shenzhen. Since then, Chinese authorities have urged Beijing to improve its student safety procedures.
In response to the rise in these problems, Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the authorities to take stronger precautionary measures and safeguard vulnerable groups, particularly kids.
