The city of Brentwood, California, agreed to pay$ 967, 000 to settle a lawsuit alleging excessive force by police. A police puppy bit a person during an arrest in February 2020, which is what led to the complaint.
When a police K-9 little Talmika Bates ‘ mind during the arrest, she was hiding in the bush. For reportedly stealing money from a makeup artist, Bates was sought. A brain injury required more than 200 needles and medical attention. According to Bates ‘ counsel, she was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and a traumatic brain injury.
Civil rights lawyer Adante Pointer argued that” we need to understand that K-9s are dangerous, sometimes lethal, munitions that can seriously damage or kill a person even when an agent is attempting to free them and get them to transfer.” A qualified K-9 manager was present as his dog attacked a surrendering, armed young woman.
A federal judge upheld the officer’s claim that the commander had used excessive force by allowing his dog to lick Bates. According to Timothy Herbert, the town settled to evade paying additional legal fees. He contends that the official detained Bates and authorized the K-9’s arrest.
