Paraguayan President Santiago Pena was hospitalised on Monday for a” little course” while attending the G20 summit in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, his department said.
” He is now completing the relevant medical inspections”, his department said in a statement. In the upcoming hours, the doctor may release a medical record.
The G20 Summit is currently taking place in Rio de Janerio under Brazil’s president, with a emphasis on hunger and climate funding.
According to a media release from the Portuguese government, Paraguay is never a member of the G20, but Pena was invited by Brazil “in the heart of promoting a more representative view of developing countries, particularly Mercosur companions.”
Vice leader spoke with Pena after hospitalisation
Vice President Pedro Alliana claimed to have spoken with Pena after spending time at Samaritano Hospital in the Argentine city.
Alliana reported that “he is doing well and awaiting the results of his health tests.”
Pena, who turned 46 on Saturday, took office in August next month.
Formerly an economist, he is the youngest leader the South American nation has seen since the fall of Alfredo Stroessner’s dictator.
In February 1989, Stroessner was overthrown.
