Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has great plans for his new position in the Trump presidency, which could include “deleting” various federal agencies. But not everyone is convinced that’s wise or even possible.
Ramaswamy, a part of the previously minted” Department of Government Efficiency”, or Expand, has spoken in the history of eliminating the Department of Education, the IRS, the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Bombs, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
He said that a Supreme Court ruling next summer is recharge President-elect Donald Trump‘s plans to axe the federal government.
” I think persons will be surprised by, I think, how swiftly we’re able to move with some of those changes, given the legal landscape the Supreme Court has given us”, he said.
That legal landscape is past summer’s Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo determination, which overturned a 1984 precedence that allowed governmental agencies large analytical freedom over confusing statutes, known as the , Chevron , doctrine. Ramaswamy believes that changing Chevron will help advance the GOP’s objectives.
But not all legitimate researchers, or Democrats,  , agree.
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY ) knocked Ramaswamy’s claims in a post on X, saying he lacked basic knowledge of how the government works.
” State 101: No governmental agencies will been’ deleted’ without an Act of Congress”, he wrote. The President is free to overturn what Congress has done by act by professional order. Congress, never the President, is the last word on the death of national companies”.
Mark Chenoweth, chairman of the New Civil Liberties Alliance, agreed that the situation is not as easy as Ramaswamy sees, though he said lots can be done short of termination.
” If you’re talking about agencies that are congressionally approved, then the executive does n’t have unilateral authority to delete agencies without getting Congress involved”, he said. ” But if the companies are overreaching their legal expert, that’s a different problem”.
Even if he ca n’t completely eliminate regulations without getting Congress involved, Chenoweth claimed Loper Bright can assist Trump in reducing their core mission and possibly reducing agencies ‘.
Trump may not be able to do that, and neither will Republican Party officials be able to prevent opponents from attempting to abolish government agencies.
GOP political hopefuls ‘ proclamations have long been popular. The Department of Education, which was established in 1978 and is viewed by the Right as a favor of teachers ‘ organizations from Democratic President Jimmy Carter, is frequently the major goal.
Promises to reduce ministries have also caused well-known political errors. In 2012, then-Texas Gov. The three organizations he wanted to axe were listed in Rick Perry’s list, or at least attempt to. He frantically searched for the next section, which turned out to be the Department of Energy, after rattling off the ministries of Commerce and Education.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL ) called for eliminating the Perry trio of Energy, Commerce, and Education during his 2024 run, along with defunding the IRS, while Ramaswamy wanted to hack off Education, the FBI, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Some of Trump’s Cabinet takes have even called for eliminating their individual agencies.
Matt Gaetz, a past Florida representative, was unpopularly chosen to lead the Department of Justice, an organization he fantasized about assassinating in 2023.
At the Conservative Political Action Conference, he said,” I do n’t care if it takes every second of our time and every ounce of our energy.” If the FBI, CDC, ATF, DOJ, or any other of them do not appear to justice, we can possibly find this government again on our side or we defund and get rid of them.

Ramaswamy agrees with his opinions, and he intends to test the limits of the Trump administration’s ability to streamline or expand it.
” We gotta go straight in through executive motion”, he said on Fox News. ” The people we elect to run the government, they’re never the ones who truly run the government. The operational state’s bureaucrats are appointed. that was created by professional behavior. It’s going to be fixed through professional activity”.
