    Measure to raise minimum wage fails in California

    Californians opposed a bill that would have increased the state’s hourly minimum wage to$ 18.

    California has gathered more than 99 % of the seats and revealed that a slender majority of voters on Wednesday voted against Proposition 32, more than two days after Election Day. In a position election, voters have for the first day rejected a pay increase.

    The state already has a$ 16 minimum wage and a$ 20 minimum wage for fast-food workers. According to research firm Employment Policies Institute, it was the impact of the fast-food workers ‘ salaries that altered Californians ‘ minds.

    Voters voted against a statewide minimum wage increase for the first time in state history, according to EPI Director Rebekah Paxton, who witnessed the devastation of the$ 20 fast-food law’s impact on the economy.

    EPI surveyed restaurants following the fast-food wage increase and reported that 98 % had raised menu prices, 89 % had reduced employee hours, and 70 % had reduced staff or consolidated positions. These same respondents predicted lower staff time and jobs and increases in menu prices in the future.

    This comes as voters rejected outlawing prison labour, with over 53 % of the vote. It was another failed determine born out of the country’s compensation committee, which was established in 2020.

    Instead, voters passed stronger penalties for those found guilty of shoplifting and drug crimes and$ 10 billion in clean energy bonds. Both the state criminal justice system and the citizens are anticipated to spend more money.
