According to two Reuters resources with knowledge of the situation, US President-elect Donald Trump will likely select Martin Makary to direct the Food and Drug Administration.
During the Covid-19 epidemic, Makary praised the defense from natural immunity and opposed demands for Covid vaccines. She also raised concerns about a number of public health issues.
Brian Hughes, a spokeswoman for the Trump transition team, said he would not surmise on or get ahead of any statement.
As FDA director, Makary did report to the brain of the Department of Health and Human Services.
One of the innovative Trump candidates for top leadership positions is climate activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has spread false information about the efficacy of vaccinations.
Makary co-developed the Surgery Checklist, a procedure used by doctors to improve patient outcomes and that the World Health Organization has distributed all over the world.
His most recent guide,” Blind Spots”, was published in September. He spoke out in interviews to promote the book about what he called “massive overtreatment” in the US, which he described as” an incident of improper attention.”
He has urged measures to health education, reexamining the use of hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women, and reducing the use of antibiotics.
Makary, who lives in Baltimore, has served as an assistant to Washington conventional medical think container Paragon Health Institute.
If confirmed by the Senate, he would triumph Dr. Robert Califf, a physician and researcher who likewise held the position of FDA director in the Obama management.
In his second term, Califf revamped the company’s food businesses and checks techniques and tried to fight propaganda.
