The United States President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday announced Pam Bondi, a previous Florida’s attorney general and seasoned attorney, as his choice for US attorney general, after Matt Gaetz’s departure from thought.
She is known for her staunch support of MAGA supremo and a strong background in law enforcement, Bondi’s nomination signals a major shift in the department of justice’s ( DOJ) priorities.
Who is Pam Bondi?
- Bondi served as Florida’s Attorney General from 2011 to 2019, becoming the state’s second woman to hold the place. She fought hard against murder while also addressing the opioid crisis and battling drug trafficking during her tenure.
- She played a prominent position on Trump’s Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during his first management, underscoring her devotion to tackling drug-related problems.
- Before beginning her political career, Bondi worked as a prosecutor for almost 20 years, handling a variety of situations and coming to terms with her strong criminal history background. Her career has been largely driven by her prior legal work and her strong commitment to public health.
- Bondi has long been Donald Trump’s steadfast alliance. During his first impeachment trial, Trump was accused of pressuring Ukraine into Joe Biden’s political rival, and she was a member of his defense group.
- Bondi has fought back vehemently against the former leader in both legal and political battles and as a legitimate planner with the America First Policy Institute, a think tank that is supportive of Trump’s plans.
- She backed Trump’s claims about the vote results in the 2020 presidential election, and she continued to do so on the campaign trail. Bondi’s reputation as a key figure in Trump’s social milieu has grown as a result of her campaign surrogacy and public performances.
- Bondi’s vocation has not been without discussion. In 2017, she faced allegations of accepting a$ 25, 000 payment linked to her company’s determination not to research Trump University.
- Nevertheless, she denied any wrongdoing, and the corruption problem did not result in charges. Despite these challenges, Bondi has remained a popular figure in conventional lines.
- Trump has praised Bondi’s ability to reform the Department of Justice ( DOJ), which he has criticized for its alleged partisanship.
- In a statement, Trump praised Bondi’s hard stance on offense, stating that she will redirect the Court on its “intended function of fighting crime and making America healthy again”, Reuters reported.
- Bondi’s election signals a possible redirection of DOJ policies, with a good focus on issues such as improper emigration, religious freedoms, and combating diversity programmes, according to Reuters.
