Passengers aboard an American Airlines flight just restrained a person using duct tape after he attempted to open the aeroplane door during a trip from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.
On November 19th, an American aircraft 1915 experienced the event.
The gentleman, a French nationwide, approached a flight attendant in the front hallway and said he “wanted and needed to enter the airplane today.” The flight attendant signaled nearby passengers for assistance as his agitation grew louder. According to an NBC News report, the man then jumped on the flight attendant, hurting her wrist and neck, and then fled toward the door.
The man was restrained and physically restrained by fellow passenger Doug McCright, who was in the front row. ” The only thing you could think about was,’ I’ve got to stop this guy,'” McCright told NBC News.
Another passenger, Charlie Boris, also stepped in. ” The fight-or-flight instinct kind of came over. And yeah, after processing and the situation was done, I’m very thankful to be here”, Boris said to NBC News.
The disruptive passenger allegedly lied to the flight attendant that he was the” captain” of the plane and demanded to leave. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, he remained adamant about leaving the flight.
Boris, McCright, and other passengers managed to pin the man down while duct tape was used to secure his hands and ankles. Authorities boarded the plane after it touched down in Dallas and discovered the man restrained using the tape. After that, he was taken back to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The incident is currently under investigation.
Duct tape is included in onboard safety kits, according to American Airlines, which is approved for these circumstances.
