The American citizens hoped that these lawmakers would assist Donald Trump in achieving his goals for the land when they granted the GOP a lot earlier this month. To fulfill his promises to citizens, he must pass his parliamentary interests and confirm cabinet nominees as soon as possible.
But not even a quarter after the 2024 election, the Senate GOP is hard at work undermining Trump’s plan.
Matt Gaetz withdrew from his position as the approaching government’s pull for attorney general after at least four Democratic senators, including Susan Collins of Maine and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, John Curtis of Utah, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, apparently opposed to his assurance.
Republicans have every right to be furious. They demanded a new state and a status quo by bringing Trump back to the White House. Then, Senate Republicans— who underperformed Trump during the 2024 election — are stymying that shift.
However, it is crucial to stop this kind of damage from progressing by understanding why so many GOP lawmakers find it comfortable to sabotage their own citizens.
Because Republican voters have repeatedly permitted it, these leaders are aware that they can get ahead with this kind of treachery. Republicans have mostly failed to participate in GOP elections for years, making sure that the Republicans they elect serve their goals when in office.
Consider the GOP senators below, many of whom are “red” and have been reelected several times despite consistently selling out their base.
In addition to systematically diverting American taxpayer funds to Ukraine, McConnell and Senate Democrats worked together earlier this year to pass legislation that would have ratified the Biden-Harris borders invasion. However, Iowa’s Joni Ernst has voted in favor of charges expanding gun power, shipping U. S. money to Ukraine, and opening the legal structure to abuse by LGBT activists who want to target religious Americans. She also sided with Democrats in a PR campaign against Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s protest against the Pentagon’s abortion policy.
John Cornyn, a Texas native who has backed massive omnibus spending bills that have increased the national debt, spearheaded efforts to pass the aforementioned gun control bill. North Carolina’s Thom Tillis also voted for the gun control package, more American dollars to Ukraine, and the previously mentioned pro-LGBT bill.
And that’s only the tip of the establishment iceberg. Similar instances of “uniparty” antics can be found in the Senate GOP caucus ‘ voting records.
With this caliber of Republicans, is it any surprise that a swamp creature like South Dakota’s John Thune gets elected majority leader?

It’s important to point out that many GOP primaries have lower voter turnout than general election races do. For instance, more than half of the electorates who backed Ernst and Cornyn in the general election did n’t appear in their respective primaries.
A Republican Party made up of people who despise the people they are elected to represent has resulted from the GOP base’s unwillingness to participate in the primary process. Because they are never punished at the ballot box for their careless behavior, they ignore the concerns of voters.
And it can only be fixed by the people, not by themselves.
Being self-governing does n’t mean going home until the following general election after appearing at the ballot box every two to four years. It calls for a devoted electorate who regularly participates in primaries and oversees every aspect of the local, state, and federal government to make sure their representatives fulfill their civic duties.
Conservatives should continue to anticipate repeated betrayal from the Republican Party until that changes.
