A judge in , Philadelphia , awarded$ 11 million in damages to , U. S. Army , veteran , George Abrahams, who claims his SIG Sauer P320 revolver fired in its holster without his hands touching the weapon.
According to Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky Computers, Abrahams is the latest defendant to successfully defend the international gun company in court.
Following a three-week trial, the judge concluded that SIG Sauer had erred in producing the revolver, was negligent in selling it, and showed disregard for other people’s rights when distributing it, according to a press release.
After deliberating for three days, the jury decided to award$ 1 million in compensatory damages and$ 10 million in punitive damages.
SIG Sauer, whose , U. S.  , headquarters is in , Newington, “knowingly and negligently compromised safety in the name of profit” , , Robert W. Zimmerman, the plaintiff’s lead counsel, said in a statement.
” The judge saw the P320 for exactly what it is, deficient and dangerous”, he said. We effectively argued that SIG Sauer was aware of the risks associated with the design of the P320 and that it had anticipated the threats to its clients.
SIG Sauer says it will appeal the decision on a number of basis, including the fact that it will still appeal the ruling in its favor despite the outcome.
” The judge agreed that defendant’s own incompetence contributed to his accident. According to the speech, Plaintiff acknowledged that the P320 pistol’s trigger was entirely retracted with at least 7 pounds of force. The P320 revolver is supposed to release when the trigger is pulled, but in this case, according to the manufacturer.
SIG claimed Abrahams handled his weapon with many safety precautions and safety precautions and that he had never trained with or fired it prior to the transfer despite having purchased it more than a year and a half prior to the incident.
Abrahams filed the lawsuit in , June 2022 , when the gun went off inside his trousers pocket as he walked down a flight of stairs. He is considered “permanently injured” after the shot tore through his right foot, according to his counsel.
Saltz Mongeluzzi Bendesky PC , represents more than 100 different P320 patients.
In June, a judge in the federal trial jury in , Atlanta , awarded , Robert Lang ,$ 2.3 million, finding that a defect in the P320 caused him to get shot in the knee while taking the gun out of its sheath in 2018. Additionally, the business was found to have ignored customer concerns about the dangers.
The P320, which was introduced in 2014, is one of the most popular weapons in the , U. S., with more than 2.5 million sold, according to the business.
SIG maintains the P320 revolver “is modern and safe, with several related inventions, including many relating to health mechanisms”.
” It is among the most tested, proven, and powerful firearms in recent past, with versions being selected as the official weapon of the , U. S., Canadian, Australian, and Danish militaries, among many other military and law enforcement agencies worldwide”, the firm declaration reads.
Attorney Zimmerman , agrees.
He claimed that SIG Sauer’s only way to prevent harming or killing innocent patients would be to modify the gun to include a health like another gun manufacturers.
