As a result of my 1958-1972 research at Antioch College and the University of Chicago, and at McGill University for the majority of that time when I began to teach it beginning in 1968, I was able to find the truth. An information and discussion process was used to generate the most accurate, most accurate understandings of the world through questioning and debating proof and inferences.  ,

The Enlightenment desire, however, declined in the latter decades of the 20th century, and a new perspective, dubbed” social justice,” took its place in the latter. Setting aside the quest for truth through data and explanation,” social fairness” was a moralizing method, asserting allegedly known spiritual principles that must be indoctrinated and implemented, and not questioned or challenged. Through interior structural changes at the university and outside-directed advocacy, the new “woke” college was dedicated to changing society in accordance with its new spiritual outlook. No more white castle: into the streets, businesses, and governments they may spread” cultural justice” enlightenment.  ,
The Women’s Movement of the later 1960s saw the start of the change of our institutions. Girls organized to free themselves from the boundaries of society by urging “gender equality” and being freed from biological constraints with the birth control pill’s appearance. Emerging women’s studies plans were established by the needs of some in some universities. The Women’s Movement’s conception of a struggle against” the Patriarchy” led to the neo-Marxist idea of class conflict between bad oppressors and honest target women. In some colleges, female college students were advised to avoid dating” the enemy” and engage in political lesbianism.  ,
But it did not take long before the Women’s Movement morphed into the Feminist Movement, and “gender fairness” morphed into a desire for sexual power. This was justified by gentlemen being characterized as” toxic”, harsh, and heterosexual relationships, married or no, construed as “rape”. Female studies were intended as a social movement to alter society as opposed to just an intellectual issue. Female reports were established in some universities, often through extra appointments of feminine professors in sociology, anthropology, English, background, education, social job, etc. In this way, it infiltrated again into departments throughout the school.  ,
Female studies, or its various names, such as women’s studies and female studies, were not really scientific subjects in the Enlightenment feeling. Because it pretended the truth that women were subject to oppression by the Patriarchy, it made no attempt to find the truth. Any allegedly “empirical” studies were merely refuts of the already widely accepted notion that women were the real queens of society and that they were brutally oppressed victims of evil. Feminist studies is not an academic subject, it is a grievance conveyance. And it moved the university away from a theoretical search for truth and turned it toward a social justice and change ideology.  ,

Feminism served as a model for other university-established grievance topics. The neo-Marxist class conflict model pits helpless black victims against white people who claimed to speak for them was adopted by blacks and those who proclaimed to speak for them. There is no shortage of grievance, so included with white people were successful minorities: Asians who were called” white adjacent” and Jews who were, for the first time, promoted to “white” and labeled “hyper-white”. Native Americans and “people of color,” who were both simultaneously BIPOC, were also at odds with blacks.  ,
Victimhood became a popular and prestigious designation, spawning more grievance subjects. Homosexuals fought for the repeal of heterosexuality and social restrictions as well as legal and equitable rights. The membership of sexual deviancy expanded to include lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, queer, two-spirit + + + in an almost unending lineup of victims. Queer education quickly gained popularity in higher education.  ,
The only positive aspect of intersectionality was that it offered multiple victimhood credits to those who claimed membership in two or more victim groups. Black lesbians, male gays with physical disabilities, and autistic females all get double credit as victims. The trifecta includes black transgender people with disabilities.  ,
When” social justice” became the United States and Canada’s recognized policy, all of the grievance movements came to fruition. President Biden declared that the United States was systemically racist and that all government entities would implement reverse sexist and racist policies. Prime Minister Trudeau offered to universities in Canada an offer they could n’t refuse, to reverse racist and sexist practices, or to receive financial sanctions. The operationalization of reverse racism, sexism, and sexuality was DEI: “diversity, equity, and inclusion” . ,
In reality, DEI offered favors and benefits to those who fell under the victim and received punishment and exclusion from those who fell under oppression. The categories were flipped: females, LGBTQ2S++, and BIPOC were to be admitted, funded, hired, and rewarded, while whites, males, Asians, Jews, and other unworthy people, such as Christians, were to be disfavored and excluded. In order to achieve this, traditional academic criteria had to be demolished: achievement and merit were labeled “racist” and” sexist”, and standardized tests were also called “racist” and no longer considered.  ,

The justification for reverse racism and sexism was that disparities between categories in academic achievement, status, or awards were due always to racist and sexist discrimination. No supporting evidence was provided to support this extraordinary claim, and no counterargument, such as that regarding family and community culture, was ever supported by supporting evidence. ” Social justice” became a crusade on behalf of “marginalized” and “underserved” victim categories, and was not given to self-reflection or even attempts at substantiation of its unlikely justifications.
Members of victim categories were admitted to universities, funded, hired, and rewarded, irrespective of their merit, while straight white males, Asians, Jews, and Christians were sidelined and excluded. Females now vastly outnumber straight males among university students, professors, and administrators. Only preferred victim categories are subject to the “representation according to percentage of the general population,” but never straight white men, who make up half of the population. Non-Hispanic whites, some 60 % of the U. S. population, and 70 % of the Canadian population, are highly underrepresented in universities, especially in Canada.  ,
” Social justice” is enforced in universities by political commissars called DEI officers, who are found, at great expense, in every faculty, and, in some universities, in every department. Objections expressed to official policy are suppressed through re-education programs, punishment, or exclusion from the institution. If as professor says the “wrong” thing, such as in favor of fairness, or equality, or merit, that leads to loss of salary and even loss of position, tenure notwithstanding. Students were notified of any offensive statements professors made to DEI political commissars. ” Social justice” is a cult of” cancellation”, crushing its opponents.  ,
What fruit has the” social justice” cult brought the universities? Most basically, they no longer teach, they propagandize. Because they have committed to awake truths, they no longer seek the truth through proof and argument. More closely resembles universities as than educational institutions. But, worse, they diffuse malicious ideology: “decolonialization” is anti-American and anti-Canadian, “anti-racism” and feminism are anti-white, anti-male, and antisemitic, Marxism and neo-Marxism are anti-capitalist.  ,

In Canada, “decolonialization” has classed everyone not indigenous” First Nations” as” colonial settlers”. Universities have been required by government to “indigenize” their offerings, replacing Western science with “indigenous science” and history with indigenous mythology. If this continues, Canadians will all soon be residing in nomadic camps, living by hunting and gathering.
My own Department has Palestinianized, focusing on destroying, among all in the world, the Jewish state of Israel, and colluding with the extermination of the Jewish people. Students have been chanting” Death to America” and” Death to Canada” while destroying American and Canadian flags at various universities, as well as recognizing Islamist terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the atrocities they carry out against Jews.  ,
Medical schools and law schools cut back on the study of medicine and law to indoctrinate their” students” with” social justice” fervor. Because of their sexual preference or skin color, weak students are admitted. Good luck driving over a newly constructed bridge or in the operating room. But the greatest damage is done by so-called faculties of education, which relentlessly rail against the countries in which they are located, against capitalism, and against white people, males, Christians, Jews, and heterosexuals. They have instructed school administrators and teachers to teach their students how to read, write, and understand science and civics, as well as how to transition to imaginary sexes, demonstrate in favor of abortion and oppose Israel, and have thus destroyed our entire educational system.  ,
What can be done about the destruction of our universities? There are many possibilities for bringing useful. First, public universities are funded by state and provincial legislatures, and legislatures can actively shape the policy of universities. Federal and national governments, which have a significant influence over private universities, grant them significant funding. Additionally, all universities are accredited by accredited organizations. Without accreditation, cooperative universities would completely shut down. Voters have some sway over legislatures, and legislators over accreditation and funding, and thus over universities.  ,

The depressing state of our universities needs to be addressed in the general public. We have seen recently the fall in public confidence in many institutions, especially “public health” bureaucrats and “mainstream” or “legacy” media, which are no longer trusted. In addition to losing public support, universities have also lost some of their students, leading to the closing of a number of small colleges. Some law firms rejecting job applicants from particular elite universities, with Stanford, Yale, and Harvard law schools having their reputations questioned and their graduates barred from the program. Law schools at once elite universities are seen with a more critical eye.  ,
A few American states—Florida, Texas, Oklahoma—have banned DEI racism and sexism, and some DEI political commissars were fired and DEI departments closed. Some universities, however, entered the “resistance mode,” changed their titles, and continued to operate normally. For applicants and employees, mandatory declarations of loyalty to” social justice” DEI must be prohibited. DEI needs to be eradicated thoroughly in all universities. This should be a priority for legislators. Universities and university administrators should be held accountable for discrimination against race, sex, and religion in full because of the law’s violation of American civil rights laws. Additionally, accreditation should be removed from universities that do n’t base staff hiring and student admissions on merit.  ,
Second, all educational institutions should be shut down, and school administrators and teachers should begin receiving brand-new training. A start would be having competition in a recognized academic field ( if these could be revived ). State and provincial education ministers and secretaries of education must oppose” social justice” school boards and administrators who promote far-left ideologies in schools while ignoring fundamental education in reading, writing, math, science, and civics. The flagrant failing of public schools in North America, particularly public ones, is a shame on our nations and poses a threat to our country’s ability to succeed in the future.  ,
No fact about universities has been more well documented or known than their political monoculture. Nearly every university in our country has a leftist political monoculture that ranges from extreme leftist to far leftist. Before meeting my fellow professors, I had never met anyone who proudly declared themselves communists. ” Diversity” of skin color and origin is much championed at our universities, although not diversity of religious belief, and especially not diversity of political opinion. It is indicative that some 95 % of all professors are declared and donating Democrats in the U. S., Liberals, NDP socialists, or Greens in Canada, although the ideological extremism is not caught by these designations.  ,

Universities become ever more extreme because the professorate is self-perpetuating. The departments select and recommend new hires, which the administration usually rubber-stamps. So each department is ideologically self-replicating, with a tendency, guided by the majority, to become more extreme over time. The female employees in my department questioned each applicant to verify their strong feminist credentials by demanding that all future hires be women. This self-replication must end.  ,
To create the possibility of a diversity of viewpoints in the university, hiring must be removed from the hands of the current professor. Administrators, who have the formal responsibility, must take on some of the actual work of selecting new professors. They would need to draw their expertise from any reliable sources, bearing in mind that ideologies at universities have completely corrupted disciplinary bodies and granting institutions. In order to promote” social justice,” members of the American Anthropological Association are now required to be anti-Jew. Unfortunately, grievance studies have replaced anthropology as a core academic discipline, which is hardly ever present.  ,
How can we guarantee diversity of opinion without hiring candidates based on their opinions, once more, if admissions and hiring are based on merit? One solution is to establish new departments, institutes, and schools with foci of interest to people without far-leftist opinions. Before leftist critics banned them, there were entire television programs about Western civilization. There are still a few colleges that concentrate on the classic works of science history. In the U. S., the Constitution could be a multidisciplinary focus, encompassing history, law, politics, and culture. A few universities have recently established such independent institutions to obstruct the possibility of plurality of opinions.  ,
In total, extremists have taken control of and destroyed our universities. Our civic authorities have largely ignored the destruction or contributed to it up until now, with a few notable exceptions. The corruption has spread its tentacles throughout education, government, business, the professions, and even sports.  ,
Watching an entire population swallow a clearly absurd proposition and then jubilantly embrace a raft of ruinous new social conventions, according to author Lionel Shriver in her quasi-alternative history novel,” Mania,” has profoundly lowered my opinion of people in general. And while it is, unfortunately, human to adopt lunatic propositions, it is also human to assess the consequences and make a correction. Right now, we absolutely need a fix.
