As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take business, captive people and some Israeli authorities are beginning to think that he might be able to free the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, something that has so far been beyond President Biden’s ability, according to Forbes.
However, Trump’s fresh press secretary at the White House, Karoline Leavitt, informed the press that the recently elected US president will restore stricter sanctions on Iran, fight terrorism, and help Israel.
She stated that” President Trump does work to bring down hostage-taking residents in America.”
During a telephone contact with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Trump was informed that Israeli intelligence believes around half of the 101 victims, including seven Americans, are still intact. Herzog emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating:” You have to keep the victims”. According to sources, Trump expressed wonder, having formerly believed most victims were useless.
The continuing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which has stalled agreements for a ceasefire and prisoner release for more than three times, is complicated by the captive condition.
Some Israeli officials believe a new peace agreement in Lebanon could put more pressure on Hamas to negotiate, despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s opposition to ending the conflict in exchange for a hostage deal and fearing it may signal Israel’s defeat.
Some Israeli authorities believe that Trump has more influence over Netanyahu than Biden, who has regularly but repeatedly urged Netanyahu to lighten his position. He has called for a quick end to the Gaza battle.
The President-elect may soon need the discharge of all victims, ask his top officials to start working on this before January 20 and alert all events of the consequences of disobeying the approaching U.S. president, according to Mark Dubowitz, CEO of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. He may make it clear that a peace must be reached before the victims ‘ release can be reached.
With Trump’s inauguration less than two months away, the people of victims, like Omer Neutra, an American citizen held by Hamas for over a month, are looking to the incoming president for behavior. In an open letter to Trump, Neutra’s kids pleaded:” We have a concept for Mr. Trump: Time is of the essence. We rely on your assistance in bringing Omer house.
