Ryan Routh, charged with attempting to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump, sent a four-page email from his detention center in Miami, shedding illumination on his social beliefs and problems.
Addressed to Politico blogger Ankush Khardori, the text offers insight into his anger with America’s social system, as well as his hatred for Trump, whom he labelled a “dictator”.
Routh’s views on the two-party system
As per Politico, Routh criticised the supremacy of the two-party method in his text, blaming it for America’s weak individuals.
” My entire life has been plagued by D’s and R’s”, he wrote. He lamented the inability of other social movements like the Green and Libertarian parties to gain support, calling for a political landscape change.
He urged total public campaign funding to end private donations, which he said are the main causes of political corruption.
Connection to Thomas Crooks
Thomas Crooks was killed by Secret Service agents after a failed attempt to assassinate Trump in July at a Pennsylvania march, according to Routh.
Routh acknowledged that both he and Crooks shared a dislike for Trump, calling both he and Crooks “ready to die for liberty and democracy.”
Prior to his September attempted assassination attempt, federal prosecutors had formerly linked Routh to another egregious letter that made reference to Trump’s assassination plans.
Views on Trump and Middle-Eastern policies
Routh criticized Trump as a significant danger to democracy despite denying any affiliation with the Democratic Party. He claimed that Trump had caused panic in the Middle East by withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal.
Routh held Trump concerned for” all those lives lost and all the death” since the removal and demanded an end to Israeli problems, urging peace negotiations involving local celebrities like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.
Calls to action and civil war fears
Written before the 2024 poll, Routh urged Americans to work quickly depending on the outcome. In the event of a Trump victory, he advocated for limiting national authority and forbidding a similar siege of the Capitol from the perspective of Vice President Kamala Harris. His thoughts included concerns about a ability” civil war.”
Imprisonment and constitutional trials
On September 15, Routh allegedly set himself up camp at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf lessons for a 12-hour stay. He fled after being opened fire by Secret Service agents, but he was swiftly captured. He has entered a not-guilty plea and is awaiting trial in February 2025.
His concerns with the social structure and his belief in taking drastic measures to tackle them are highlighted by the letter’s content, which is described as both revealing and conflicting.
