Following the arrest of renowned Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness ( ISKCON ) has urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure “peaceful coexistence” for Hindus there.
ISKCON Bangladesh formally denounced the imprisonment and subsequent violence against the Sanatani community in various regions of the country in a statement.
” We express our deep concern and vehement condemnation of Chinmoy Krishna Das’s new imprisonment. We even condemn the Sanatani problems and later murder in different parts of Bangladesh, according to ISKCON Bangladesh general secretary Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari.
He urged the government to encourage quiet interaction among the Sanatani community.
On his way to Chattogram to take part in a protest, Chinmoy Krishna Das, the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote’s director, was detained on Monday at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. He was imprisoned in a rebellion case on Tuesday after the Chattogram Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Court denied him parole.
In a statement, the ISKCON affirmation stated that Bangladesh was their “birthplace and ancient home” and that the interim government, led by main director Muhammad Yunus, should protect religious freedoms. In response to Das ‘ ongoing efforts to defend minorities right and the Sanatani area, it called for justice for him.
” Das has vehemently backed the security of minorities in Bangladesh. It is crucial to ensure his rights are protected, according to the declaration.
ISKCON even called for strict laws to protect all minorities’ legal rights and demanded that the perpetrators of recent attacks on Hindus be identified and held accountable.
The condition for Hindus, who make up about 8 % of Bangladesh’s 170 million people, has become increasingly worrying. Over 200 problems have been reported in more than 50 regions since Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government’s drop on August 5.
India has expressed “deep problem” over these improvements. The American government urged Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of all majority organizations, including Hindus, on Tuesday.
