Israel asked the International Criminal Court on Wednesday to halt the subpoenas for Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant as it will appeal against arrest warrants for the Prime Minister and his former defence minister.
Next week, the ICC issued the subpoenas for Netanyahu and Gallant on suspicion of crimes against humanity and war crimes in Israel’s battle on Hamas in Gaza, triggered by the Palestinian militant team’s October 7, 2023 harm.
” The State of Israel challenges the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court ( ICC ) and the legitimacy of the arrest warrants issued,” Netanyahu’s office said, according to news agency AFP.
” If the judge rejects this ask, it does more show to Israel’s companions in the United States and around the globe how biased the International Criminal Court is against the State of Israel,” it added.
What are the costs?
The ICC decision outlines some important claims against Netanyahu and Gallant, alleging there are fair grounds to believe they bear legal responsibility for the second:
War murder of malnutrition: Both leaders are accused of intentionally depriving the human population in Gaza of essential supplies, including food, water, medicine, gas, and power, from at least 8 October 2023. These activities allegedly led to widespread malnutrition and dehydration, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and leading to human deaths.
Crimes against humanity: The prosecutor accuses Netanyahu and Gallant of committing crimes against humanity, including:
– Murder: The poverty of critical resources reportedly resulted in deaths, especially among kids, due to malnutrition and dehydration.
– Oppression: The restriction of humanitarian assistance is seen as a politically motivated assault on Gaza’s human people, leading to organized suffering.
– Another cruel works: The lack of medical supplies, including anaesthetics, forced doctors to perform on patients, including children, without right anesthetic, resulting in severe pain and suffering.
