‘ Protect Economic Freedom Act’ may require colleges declare every they are n’t boycotting Israel ,  ,
On Tuesday, a costs introducing Republican Rep. Virginia Foxx and Democrat Rep. Josh Gottheimer proposed to withdraw cash from institutions that deal with Israeli-linked entities.
According to a Committee on Education and the WorkForce news release, the” Protect Economic Freedom Act” would require universities to submit annual certifications to the Department of Education in order to demonstrate that they are not engaged in any” commercial boycotts dictated by those in the boycott-sanction-divest ( BDS ) movement.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Education may be required to “make officially available a list of all organizations that fail to guarantee.”
” Enough is enough. According to Foxx ( pictured ), “appeasing the antisemitic mobs on college campuses threatens the safety of Jewish students and faculty, and it undermines our strongest allies ‘ relationship,” Foxx ( pictured ) said in the news release.
Gottheimer condemned” the racist BDS motion”, stating that its target “is to kill the political State of Israel, America’s important alliance in the world fight against terror”.
” While students and faculty are free to speak their minds and disagree on policy concerns, we cannot allow racism to run rampant and hazard the safety and security of Israeli students, staff, faculty, and friends on school colleges”, he stated.
According to the press release, extremist anti-Israel activists were pressuring universities to leave Israel and boycott it, according to the committee’s investigation into antisemitism on college campuses.
It provided an example from Northwestern University, where it was discovered that faculty members and the provost had refused to comply with protestor demands by removing Sabra hummus from campus dining areas because of its association with Israel. According to the news release, this not only weakens economic partnerships but also strengthens the U.S.-Israel alliance and encourages antisemitic organizations.
Further, “more than 30 student governments at universities across the country have passed boycott resolutions, according to the Palestinian BDS National Committee, which counts Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and other U. S. designated terror organizations as members”, The Washington Free Beacon reported.
Last month, however, Harvard University rejected activist student demands to divest from Israel, stating that would “declare an institutional position” on a divisive issue, The College Fix previously reported.
Similar requests for schools to divest from Israel have recently been rejected by students at the University of Virginia and Wesleyan University.
