SIBOLANGIT: Seven people have died in a flood triggered by heavy floods in Indonesia’s Sumatra area, authorities said on Thursday, adding to the death toll from floods in the region this week.
Firefighters recovered the body of the victims, including a driver and passengers, from a visitor vehicle that was covered by trees, mud, and rocks in the disaster on the road from Medan area to Berastagi village in Indonesia’s North Sumatra state. The principal route provides direct transportation to other nearby towns, including the capital Medan.
Since Wednesday night, the bus has been among the vehicles that have been impacted by mudslides.
More than 10 individuals were also hurt, and they have been taken to a medical facility in Medan area.
Some cars are still stranded between the disaster areas along that path, according to Muji Ediyanto, customers director for the North Sumatra Regional Police, according to a movie whatsapp released by Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency on Thursday.
They will need at least two days to be evacuated from the disaster. Some cars are nonetheless trapped by stacks ( from the ) floods. The cars have been unable to leave the places because of the landslides and fallen trees at various points, according to Ediyanto.
In Karo district, which is less than 20 kilometers from the most recent disaster area, 20 people died earlier this week as a result of flash floods and landslides in four locations in North Sumatra province’s mountainsides.
