Over 80 000 people were forced to evacuate and four people died as a result of heavy rains this month, according to officials in numerous Malaysian states.
Four people have died in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Sarawak, according to hazard leaders. Additionally, 467 temporary tents spread across seven states were relocated to, according to officials from the National Disaster Command Center.
Search and rescue teams were authorized by the disaster center to support operations in the affected areas, especially Kelantan. The most significant impact was felt in Kelantan and Terengganu’s northeast regions.
A representative from the weather department told AFP that until Saturday, popular rainfall is forecast. The country, home to 34 million people, experience annual flooding due to the north rain, which brings considerable rainfall between November and March.
Earlier on Thursday, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that recent floods were “expected to be more serious than in 2014”, when about 118, 000 people were displaced, the standard Bernama news agency reported.
Zahid, who heads the National Disaster Management Committee, confirmed that considerable emergency workers, together with evacuation boats, four-wheel-drive automobiles and helicopters, have been stationed in flood-prone states.
