Three top computer vision and machine learning engineers from Google DeepMind, who will all work in a recently opened OpenAI office in Zurich, Switzerland, were recently hired by OpenAI. At a company inside meeting on Tuesday, OpenAI executives announced Lucas Beyer, Alexander Kolesnikov, and Xiaohua Zhai will work on bidirectional AI, artificial intelligence models that can perform tasks in a range of media, including audio and video.

The first type of OpenAI’s text-to-image platform Dall-E, which was developed in 2021, was a pioneer in modal AI. Its flagship robot ChatGPT, nevertheless, was first only capable of interacting with words sources. As bidirectional features gained an increasingly significant place in the company’s product line and Artificial research, the company after added voice and image features. ( The latest version of Dall-E is available directly within ChatGPT. ) Despite not having a commonly available release, OpenAI has also created a very anticipated conceptual AI video product called Sora.

All three of the newly hired researchers now work tightly together, according to Beyer’s specific site. While he was employed by DeepMind, Beyer appears to have closely monitored the common conflicts the business was engaged in and the research that OpenAI was publication, which he usually posted about to his more than 70, 000 supporters on X. Beyer claimed that Altman had read that he had been involved in too many different companies at once when he was quickly removed from OpenAI by its board of directors next year.

OpenAI and its rivals are fiercely vying to get a select group of leading researchers from around the world, frequently offering them monthly compensation packages for close to seven figures or more as they work to create the most cutting-edge AI models. The most sought-after talent is not unusual for the most sought-after ability to travel between firms.

Tim Brooks, for example, who formerly co-led the study path of OpenAI’s unpublished video generator just departed to function at DeepMind. However, DeepMind and OpenAI are just two examples of the high-profile hunting. Microsoft hired its AI guide, Mustafa Suleyman, apart from Inflection AI in March—along with most of the company’s people. And Google apparently paid$ 2.7 billion to take Character. Noam Shazeer, the original AI chairman, has been welcomed back.

A number of important OpenAI employees have left the company over the past several months, either to form strong rivals like DeepMind and Anthropic or to launch their own businesses. Ilya Sutskever, an OpenAI director and its former captain professor, left to build Safe Superintelligence Inc., a company focused on AI safety and philosophical risks. Mira Murati, OpenAI’s past chief technology officer, announced she was leaving the company in September and is reportedly raising money for a new AI opportunity.

In October, OpenAI said that it was working on expanding worldwide. In addition to the fresh Zurich practices, the company plans to open new troops in New York City, Seattle, Brussels, Paris, and Singapore, and already has troops in London, Tokyo, and other places, in addition to its San Francisco office.

Zhai, Beyer, and Kolesnikov all now lived in Zurich, according to Linked In, which has become a relatively popular t gateway in Europe. ETH Zurich, a public research university with a world-renowned computer science department, is located in the city. According to a report released by the Financial Times earlier this year, Apple has even reportedly poached a number of AI specialists from Google to operate at” a mysterious European experiment in Zurich.”
