The national average price for regular gas decreased to$ 3.011 per gallon on Tuesday, a drop from Monday’s price of$ 3.018, according to AAA. Today’s price for regular oil is also less expensive than a week ago, when it was$ 3.037 per gallon.

Since the summers, fuel prices have been trending upward, and they are significantly less expensive than they were in the first half of this year. Tuesday’s regional average rate for a gallon of regular gasoline is the lowest on record since May 2021, when the regular price was$ 2.985 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration. Since then, gas prices skyrocketed, becoming a financial burden for everyone in the country, with average prices climbing to over$ 3 per gallon and, for a short time, even over$ 4 per gallon.

For most of Joe Biden’s name, gas prices have been higher than previously. The cost of oil began to decline later in the year after reaching its peak in 2022, which included the nation’s highest average rate in its history. Pricing increased once more in 2023 before peaking once in April 2024. In May 2024, gasoline prices steadily started to decline.

Yet, even with the significant drop in fuel costs over the previous half of the season, prices are still higher than they were when Donald Trump took office between January 2017 and January 2021. It remains to be seen how Trump’s presidency may affect fuel prices now that he is scheduled to take office on January 20, 2025. However, gasoline prices continue to shift nationwide. Hawaii has the most expensive gas prices at$ 4.559 per gallon. However, Oklahoma has the least expensive fuel at$ 2.517 per gallon. Click here to view the oil prices across the state.
