The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced a work stoppage at several Amazon areas nationwide starting on Thursday at 6 a.m. The union claims that hundreds of Google employees have organized with the Teamsters and have constantly rejected negotiations requests, according to a media release.
The Teamsters ‘ news was referred to as the “largest strike against Amazon in British story” on the Teamsters site. About 10, 000 staff are expected to participate in the work stoppage. It occurs during the busiest shopping season of the year, when persons make Christmas presents, according to Teamsters General President Sean M.O’Brien.
” If your item is delayed during the holidays, you may blame Amazon’s insatiable ambition. We gave Amazon a set amount of time to come up with ideas and conduct business with our customers. Nantel emphasized that Amazon had raised the starting pay for its owners and employees in fulfillment centers by 20 %. She also mentioned a pay raise that increased the agency’s starting pay for employees from$ 22 per hour in September. The federal minimum wage in the U. S. is$ 7.25 per minute.
Among the state where employees are dramatic, Amazon’s$ 22 per minute is higher than each of their state’s minimum income earnings. California has the highest minimum wage at$ 16 per hour, followed by New York at$ 15 per hour, Illinois at$ 14 per hour, and Georgia at$ 5.15 per hour.
