Campus head says,” To generally comply with issues that are not within our beliefs is something we should not be doing,”
Higher education institutions may have up for the “values” of diversification, equity, and inclusion in the face of the incoming Trump administration, the president of Mount Holyoke College said in a new interview.
President-elect Donald Trump’s strategies to limit DEI perhaps offend free speech rights, according to Danielle Holley, who spoke with New England Public Media, and higher education institutions should plan to file a lawsuit.
The leader of the school said,” To generally comply with issues that are not our ideals just because we feel a danger of investigation is something we should not be doing.”
For the personal Massachusetts women’s school, these “values” include admitting trans kids, she told the news shop:
In the short term, Holley said Mount Holyoke is looking to support individuals who may be affected by the approaching government’s angry anti-diversity and Transgender plans. That might include providing gender-affirming attention to kids who may no longer be able to access it in their home position.
Holley claims that some colleges and universities may try to appease the presidency by cleaning their websites of diversification language, but she said Mount Holyoke, one of the first women’s colleges to encouraged trans students, doesn’t make sense.
” As a children’s school, we value the participation of women and people who are marginalized on the basis of gender. We have to value items like sexual rights, etc., because it goes to the center of the health of our students and their well-being”, she said.
According to Holley,” we have to sort of buckle in and get ready for four years when we have a national government that is hostile to Mount Holyoke’s core mission and values.”
Holley, the college’s first black president, said higher education institutions need to stand up and say” No”! to the Democrat leader’s programs.
” Rather, we need to really state’ No! Here’s what we stand for. We’ll keep up our fight against this. And if you believe that you can legitimately challenge our goal or our beliefs, that’s up to you to try to accomplish,'” Holley said.
Her speech comes as a number of higher education institutions are removing La practices and programs, many of which are done in response to state legislative activities.
The College Fix reported earlier this month that a significant West Coast higher learning accreditor is moving to remove references to diversity, equity, and participation from its approval requirements.
Trump vowed to “fire the extreme kept accreditors that have allowed our schools to be dominated by Socialist maniacs and loons” during the campaign trail.
However, a number of prominent conservative and liberal organizations are calling on the federal government to prevent funding DEI initiatives, which they say are “divisive” and “discriminatory”.
