The White House on Friday announced$ 571.3 million in defense support for Taiwan, which US President Joe Biden approved. Additionally, the State Department approved a probable sale of the island’s$ 264 million military equipment.
According to a White House declaration, Biden had the authority to direct the secretary of state’s authorization to “direct the discharge of up to$ 571.3 million in defence content and service of the Department of Defense, military education and training, and to provide support to Taiwan.”
The military aid bundle, which comes less than three weeks after a similar item worth$ 567 million was authorized, was not disclosed in the statement.
The Pentagon said that the State Department has approved a possible$ 265 million price to Taiwan for prompt, control, contacts, and computer reform products.
The United States is constitutionally required to provide Taiwan with defensive features despite not having any formal diplomatic relations with Taipei, a position that constantly drew Beijing’s indignation. Taiwan, operating under political management, dismisses China’s independence says.
China has increased its military presence close to Taiwan, holding everyday operations and conducting two military activities this season, according to reports.
Taiwan raised its alert position last week in answer to what it described as China’s largest marine attention in 30 years centered around Taiwan and the nearby seas.
Taiwan’s defence government confirmed that the purchase may increase its command-and-control techniques.
The ministry said on Saturday said that the US had approved the sale of$ 30 million worth of parts for 76 mm autocannons, a move aimed at bolstering the island’s ability to counter China’s “grey-zone” warfare tactics.
The ministry of national defense thanked Taiwan for “its strong protection commitment,” indicating ongoing bilateral cooperation in security matters to keep the Taiwan Strait at peace.
The government stated in a statement that” Taiwan and the United States will continue to work closely together on safety issues to keep the Taiwan Strait stable, stable, and peaceful.”
Based on Taiwan’s tacit agreement with the United States, they declined to provide more details about the” content” of the aid.
