Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, received an extraordinary level of attention during his 10-day lock up at Huntingdon State Correctional Institute in Pennsylvania.
The 26-year-old reportedly received 54 letters, 87 real words, and 163 economic deposits into his commissary bill, allowing him to buy snacks and other items, as per the New York Post. But, authorities refused to reveal the total amount received or the letter’s specifics.
Some of Mangione’s friends were open about their information.
One fan posted a picture of her statement on TikTok, saying,” Hey Luigi, I’ve received many emails from people all over the world that the computer is actually in love with you.” The friend, who claimed to be close to Mangione’s years, claimed that she offered herself as someone he could talk to while he was in prison.
Describing him as “fine]as f–k ]”, one fan justified his alleged actions, saying, “didnt rlly do anything wrong tbh”.
She told The Post,” Killing someone who has taken thousands of lives himself is not wrong.
Another admirer later recalled the incident in a TikTok video and wrote him a letter along with photos of her recent birthday.
Fans have reportedly tattooed images of the hooded gunman on their bodies and posted social media tributes as evidence of Mangione’s fascination with the character.
One TikTok user, identified as @adamlicious666, recorded himself dancing outside the Pennsylvania jail to Charli XCX’s song” Apple”. Luigiiiiiiiii come out i heard u like Charli xcx, the caption read.
Another 15-second-long TikTok video titled” Day 2 of doing the apple dance in front of Luigi’s prison”, racked up 1.8 million “views” and nearly 2, 500 comments.
Prison reform advocate Floyd, who served 26 months for negligent homicide while driving drunk, also reached out to Mangione. In a TikTok video, she recited her message:” I have seen what you’ve shared, and I acknowledge your suffering. I understand. I see you”.
She further offered advice on surviving prison life, drawing from her own experience.
