A survey conducted in Taiwan has revealed that under 40 % of young Chinese support regulating influential people involved in efforts to bring about China unity, according to Focus Taiwan.
This survey was conducted during a seminar, which raised questions among professionals about the younger era’s lack of awareness and attention regarding dangers coming from across the Taiwan Strait.
At a seminar in Taipei on Friday, the Asia-Pacific Elite Interchange Association ( APEIA ) unveiled the findings of a survey exploring public opinions on China’s United Front tactics aimed at Taiwan, along with other recent cross-strait matters.
The survey results revealed that 56.3 percent of respondents were in favor of changing laws to regulate Taiwanese influencers connected to China’s United Front activities, compared to 25.7 % who opposed them, and 18 % who had no opinion. Among respondents aged 20 to 24, however, merely 37.9 per cent were in favour, a significant decrease compared to the 49.1 to 70.6 per cent help seen in other age groups.
The relatively small knowledge of the Chinese United Front work among younger Taiwanese was described by Arthur Wang, Secretary-General of the APEIA and expert on cross-strait relations, as a “warning mark.” He said,”” This suggests that to some extent… our younger people have really lost their monitoring.”
He urged society to pay attention to young Taiwanese ‘ fairly small attention of China’s United Front actions, especially those who have endured prolonged exposure to Chinese social media.
According to Focus Taiwan, the survey was conducted in response to rumors that China has been reportedly bribing Japanese politicians to help with its United Front actions. Pa Chiung, a YouTuber, made these revelations public in a film.
Chen Po-yuan, a Chinese singer, was interviewed by Pa Chiung in the video, who described his experiences working with Chinese government agencies to advertise his music.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP ) uses the United Front to influence and recruit individuals or groups to advance its political and strategic goals, including promoting Taiwan’s unification with China.
