President-elect , Donald Trump , threatened to fire federal workers who don’t come back to the office, and said he would go to court to issue a Biden administration workers deal that locked in rural work arrangements for thousands of governmental employees.
” If people don’t come back to work, come back into the office, they’re going to get dismissed”, Trump said in a press conference at his house in , Palm Beach, Florida , on Monday.
” And someone in the Biden administration also signed a five-year waiver to make it so that employees won’t have to go back to the office for five times,” he continued. ” It’s crazy. So it was like a product to a coalition”.
The remote work clause was included in a deal between the , Social Security Administration , and the 42, 000 workers represented by the , American Federation of Government People. According to that commitment, arrangements that demand employees to work at the office on average two to five days per week were solidified.
” Social negotiations treaties entered into by the national authorities are binding and legal under the law”, AFGE National President , Everett Kelley , said in a statement. We can rely on the incoming administration to carry out their legal contract responsibility. We will be prepared to impose our right if they don’t.
The provision allowing for some remote work, first reported by Bloomberg, got the attention of , Tesla Inc.  , and , SpaceX , CEO , Elon Musk , and his , Department of Government Efficiency, a Trump initiative to cut up to$ 2 trillion in federal spending. Musk has long opposed work-from-home preparations at his businesses, saying office staff should have the same job regulations as factory workers, food service employees and repair workers.
