According to the report from the US House Ethics Committee, former US member Matt Gaetz, President-elect Donald Trump‘s past pick for attorney general, was often accused of paying for sex, using illegal drugs, and having sexual relations with an young girl.
The document, released Monday, found that from at least 2017 to 2020, Gaetz “regularly paid people for engaging in sexual activity with him”, and, in 2017, “engaged in physical activity with a 17-year-old girl”, the statement said. The Ethics Committee found that from 2017 to 2019, Gaetz used or possessed unlawful drugs, including cocaine and ecstasy “on many times”, and accepted beautiful gifts, including travel to and lodging in the Bahamas, in excess of lawful quantities. Investigators cited payments made by Gaetz to 12 women that were “probably connected to sexual activity and/or drug use” totaling more than$ 90,000.
The ethics board determined that Gaetz violated House rules regarding gifts and the use of his official workplace, and that he had broken state laws governing sexual misconduct, including Florida’s legal rape law. Gaetz resigned from the House next month after being chosen by Trump to serve as AG. In the midst of a contentious confirmation debate in the Senate, he withdrew from thought.
