In response to the growing outcry over widespread attacks on majority Hindus in the North Eastern country, US national security advisor Jake Sullivan and Bangladesh’s time government’s chief assistant Muhammad Yunus made a phone call to discuss their” commitment to protect individual rights of all people, regardless of religion.”
In a statement outlining their conversation, the White House stated that” Both officials expressed their determination to respecting and protecting the individual rights of all people, regardless of religion.”
” Sullivan re-iterated the United States ‘ help for a rich, firm, and political Bangladesh, and offered the United States ‘ continued help in meeting the difficulties Bangladesh faces”, the White House statement more added.
According to the White House, Sullivan even expressed gratitude to Yunus for leading Bangladesh through a difficult time, according to PTI news agency.
The Biden administration’s move of energy to Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20 as the 47th US President, was just before the visit.
It even came weeks after Shri Thanedar, an Indian American Democratic Congressman, pleaded with the head of Bangladesh’s interim government to address the deaths of Hindus and the loss of their churches.
Thanedar stated to reporters last week at the US Capitol that” this problem should not be unique from the one we have historically championed.” We had respond properly when a global call for assistance is received because we are the world’s voice for human rights. We must press Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus to meet his commitment to restoring serenity and rebuilding the country based on equality and righteousness.
According to HinduACTion, concerning studies have emerged about aggressive assaults against Hindus, especially in the past month, with affected people on the ground seeking immediate support.
Utsav Chakrabarti, HinduACTion’s executive director, noted that activities in Bangladesh over the past five and a half months indicate that” Muhammad Yunus has failed to have” his associates in the Jamaat-e-Islami, who are reportedly engaging in church death, killings, sexual abuse of women, and oppression of Hindu religious leaders and society figures through prison.
” It is crucial that we obviously chart out a way for safe autonomous regions for the Hindus, all 15 million of them, along with the Buddhist and Christians within the confines of Bangladesh,” he continued.
The Bangladesh government earlier on Monday requested the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in a formal diplomatic letter ( note verbale ) sent to India.
Foreign adviser Touhid Hossain told The Daily Star,” We sent a note verbal ( diplomatic message ) to the Indian government informing the government that the Bangladesh government wants her ( Hasina ) back here for the judicial process.”
The interim government, headed by Muhammad Yunus, intends to implement the extradition agreement with India to safe Sheikh Hasina’s profit. She left Bangladeshi following common student presentations. The Yunus state intends to sue her for “massacre murders… during the student-led demonstrations in July and August.”
