A picture that showed an attack on an Alawite temple in the country’s north was the subject of angry protests on Wednesday in various areas of Syria, according to a battle monitor and witnesses.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, significant presentations occurred in the southern towns of Tartus and Latakia, regions where Bashar al-Assad’s ousted leader is a native.
The Britain-based Observatory also reported demonstrations in pieces of the main area of Palmyra and other places including Qardaha, Assad’s home.
According to witnesses, marches erupted in Tartus, Latakia, and near Jableh.
Pictures from Jableh showed large masses in the roads, some chanting mantras including” Alawite, Sunni, we want tranquility”.
According to local authorities in Jableh, a nighttime curfew was also announced by the state news agency SANA, while police in central Homs imposed a curfew from 6 p.m. ( 1500 GMT ) until 8 am on Thursday.
The Observatory reported that the demonstrations broke out after a video that appeared before on Wednesday that purportedly showed” an attack by fighters” on a significant Alawite shrine in Aleppo’s second city of Maysaloon began to circulate.
It said five staff were killed, adding that the temple was set fire.
The precise date of the picture was not specified, according to Observatory key Rami Abdel Rahman.
He claimed it was captured early in the month after rebels led by the Islamist party Hayat Tahrir al-Sham launched a lightning strike and seized control of big cities, including Aleppo, on December 1st, after he was ousted a week later.
