After losing a video game, a Kentucky man punched his one-month-old child in the brain, and he was given a 20-year prison sentence on Thursday. In Jefferson Circuit Court, Anthony Trice, 32, entered a guilty plea to murder, concluding a cold case that exposed the horrific level of abuse an infant received.
The day of murder
The tragic event unfolded on May 3, 2019, in Louisville, Kentucky. When Trice was left to take care of his young brother, he jumped into a fury after losing a video game. He threw his joystick across the room in an uncontrollable fit of rage, then punched the girl in the mind with his elbow, causing severe injuries.
Trice attempted to create a container for the infant while the child was crying, which more injured him. He propped the child up with a drink in a room and left to use the restroom instead of requesting immediate medical attention. By the time he returned, the child was in serious problems. Trice called 911, and the girl was rushed to the hospital, where he eventually died from his wounds.
From legal mistreatment to murder
First charged with unlawful abuse, Trice’s charges escalated to first-degree death following the boy’s death. Court documents revealed the infant’s cruelty in the attack, which left the child seriously hurt. In the end, Trice entered a murder plea in Alford, claiming innocence but denying that the evidence against him was sufficient to support a verdict.
Family’s grief
The mother’s family, devastated by the activities, recalled their shock and disbelief. The boy’s aunt told WLKY that the family had left the baby with Trice while they were attending Kentucky Derby weekend festivities. She continued to struggle with understanding the violence that occurred as we were talking about the garments he received and what we were about to give him.
The boy’s aunt furthermore expressed her anger. ” I’m mad”, she said. ” I never would have imagined that this would take place in our home.”
