According to authorities, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies shot an armed man dying following a chase close to the Fort Lauderdale Tri-Rail place.
Just before 2 p. m., deputies responded to a record of a “domestic commotion with a weapons” at a house in Broward County, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carey Codd said in a news release.
An armed man fled the house, and delegates pursued him to the crossroads of Southwest First Street and Southwest 21st Terrace in Fort Lauderdale, next to the Tri-Rail place, Codd said. There, the delegates had an “encounter” with the person, and many deputies fired their guns, striking him.
According to director Frank Guzman, BSO received a call about the killing shortly after 2: 30 p.m. when Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue doctors responded. When they arrived on the scene, the person was later declared dead.
Authorities did not provide any additional information about the boy’s personality or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Afterwards, police recovered a weapon from the field.
On Saturday evening, a large number of deputies were examining a locked-off area north of the Tri-Rail stop as they stood under the bridge between Interstate 95 and Broward Boulevard.
According to Codd, all delegates in charge of the firing are on administrative leave. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
