Nearly 300 arrested in Syria crackdown on Assad loyalists: Monitor

BEIRUT: Syria’s fresh authorities have arrested nearly 300 people, including sources, pro-regime soldiers and former military, in a crackdown on unionists to dismissed former president Bashar al-Assad, a track said Sunday.
The new government in Syria has made more efforts to consolidate control since the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham ( HTS ) group led rebels that had put an end to more than 50 years of family rule three weeks ago.
On Thursday, the security troops of the new administration launched a massive activity against Assad’s armies.
” In less than a week, roughly 300 people have been detained in Damascus and its cities, as well as in Homs, Hama, Tartus, Latakia and yet Deir Ezzor”, said Rami Abdel Rahman, mind of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war screen.
Additionally, this week’s detention, according to the established Palestinian news agency SANA, were made in the provinces of Hama and Latakia, where weapons and ammunition were seized. It did not provide any images.
Among those arrested, according to the Observatory, were past government sources, pro-Iranian soldiers and lower-ranking military officials accused of deaths and abuse, Abdel Rahman said.
The Observatory, which is based in Britain, relies on a system of resources across Syria.
No notable individuals have been detained, according to Abdel Rahman, who was the former head of military justice under Assad and allegedly oversaw dozens of death sentences following Saydnaya prison’s summary trials.
Referring to social media video showing armed people abusing prisoners and even carrying out summary deaths, Abdel Rahman said:” Some persons, including sources, were instantly executed after being detained”.
AFP was unable to independently confirm the veracity of the graphics.
The prosecutions were apparently taking place” with the assistance of native populations”, Abdel Rahman added.
After a swift offensive, the Units led a coalition of past Islamist rebels that quickly entered Damascus and forced Assad to retreat to Russia.
Anas Khattab, the new mind of General Intelligence, has pledged to reform the safety equipment, denouncing” the unfairness and despotism of the previous regime, whose agencies sowed corruption and inflicted suffering on the people”.
