Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA ) argued that the U.S. attracts talent and should concentrate on reviving its work visa system to attract more top talent.

After suspending the H-1B permits in 2020, President-elect Donald Trump has changed his mind to now&nbsp, supporting&nbsp, them alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Khanna spoke on Fox News Sunday to show his support for the card while even calling for changes.

” One of the&nbsp, details I think Elon and others&nbsp, are making is, what makes America&nbsp, remarkable is that we are a magnet&nbsp, for the world’s skills. &nbsp, It’s wonderful that Elon Musk comes&nbsp, around. It’s great that Jensen] Huang], who started Nvidia, is doing it here and and not Taiwan”, Khanna said. &nbsp,” We made a mistake when we lost&nbsp, Maurice Chang who was an expatriate around, educated at&nbsp, MIT. He leaves the United States, &nbsp, and think what — starts Taiwan Semiconductors, and then we don’t own electronics in the United States”.

Khanna continued to advocate for reform through policy that he introduced with Representatives Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), and Lance Belonging (R-TX )” to reform and reduce fraud and abuse in some card programs for foreigners working briefly in the United States, and for other reasons.” The H-1B and L-1 Visa Reform Act, in Khanna’s opinion, would likewise forbid businesses from deliberately underpaying visa recipients and, as a result, underpaying wages for all workers in similar positions.

” ]H-1B visas ] shouldn’t be for accountants or&nbsp, entry-level IT jobs. &nbsp, It should really be for&nbsp, extraordinary skill and we can&nbsp, have that equilibrium”, Khanna said. ” I hope&nbsp, President Trump looks at that&nbsp, bipartisan bill that would &nbsp, reform this”.

Trump’s effort to halt the visa was meant to end the practice of a lottery-based technique and move to one that is merit-based. Some of Trump’s experts have suggested that the country-based caps get lifted so that more merit-based permits can be given to more nations than others.
