Lawler contends US must face depopulation ‘reality’ amid H-1B visas debate

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY ) argued the United States needs to deal with the “reality” of its future, making an argument to fix the nation’s “broken” immigration system.

Since Department of Government Performance co-heads Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy spoke warmly about them, President-elect Donald Trump has sided with the two, and the topic of immigration, especially H-1B visas, has risen significantly in debate over the past month. Lawler argued in his opinion that the United States must recognize that its people did “decline” by the end of the century.

According to Lawler, “our population has decreased from two children per woman to one per woman over the past 15 years, indicating that we are experiencing a long-term decline in population.” ” We have a work force lack of doctors, nurses, technicians, home health aids, development staff, hospitality workers. We need emigration. We require a legitimate, effective immigration system, and I firmly believe that you also need a system that is more geared toward our financial needs as a nation and a merit-based immigration system than any other system.

The senator added that the visa given to newcomers have been” important” to the world’s business, citing how Trump has even made use of it for his business projects. He even said the state has been “built on immigration”, and this is essential for the world’s growing market.

Lawler even pointed out that India produces” a considerable number more” engineers than the United States, which suggests that this also means that the United States needs to modernize its education system. &nbsp,

Lawler also addressed whether House Republicans should appoint Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA ), joking with fellow lawmakers that they are “playing with fire” about the possibility of replacing Johnson. He continued, “kidding themselves” by those who want to replace Johnson with a more traditional member.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY ) has stated on X that he will not vote to confirm Johnson as speaker in January, which could pose danger to the speaker given the party’s thin majority. Lawler, but, suggested Republicans can also generate enough votes yet without Massie’s vote.

I’m going to cast my ballot for someone other than Mike Johnson. The “hurry up and choose him so we can confirm the vote on J6” discussion doesn’t appeal to me. A poor legislative branch that is subdued by the lake may not be able to fulfill the promise that voters in November gave Trump and Congress. photograph. twitter.com/vrD3l45XDX— Thomas Massie ( @RepThomasMassie ) December 27, 2024

The voting to affirm the House’s 119th speech will take place on Friday.
