According to the US Center for Whale Research, an animal known as Tahlequah ( also known as J35 ) was seen carrying her dying newborn baby in Puget Sound off Seattle.
This is the second time the killer whale ( another name for orca ) Tahlequah has been seen carrying a deceased calf, which was observed by researchers on New Year’s Day. The earliest instance occurred in 2018, when she carried her baby for 17 days.
In a social media post, the core claimed that” J35 has been seen carrying the body of the deceased calf.” J35 observed this conduct in 2018 when she carried the deceased’s calf’s system for 17 times. This new decline is the next of Tahlequah’s four documented calf.
This most recent decline, according to the Center for Whale Research, was “particularly devastating.” They hope to continue to observe and study more.
While this tragedy unfolds, another kid has joined Tahlequah’s seed. Although its identity is still unknown, the calf appears to be healthy and normal, according to the Center for Whale Research. Southern Resident Killer Whales, an endangered species with only about 70 people spread across three seeds, are Tasmanian and her seed. In the spring and fall, these dolphins can be found in Puget Sound lakes. The National Marine Fisheries Service attributes the decline in their people to a number of factors, including declining victim availability and disruption of sea vessels.
