'Americans only pay attention to spectacles': Soldier blew up Tesla Cybertruck as 'wakeup call'
Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside US President-elect Donald Trump’s Las Vegas resort beginning Wednesday, Jan 1, 2025. ( left ) and ID belonging to Matthew Livelsberger.

Matthew Livelsberger, a painted US Army soldier, shot himself in a Tesla Cybertruck just before it exploded near the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on January 1st. Authorities said on Friday that Livelsberger left papers saying the blast was meant as a “wake-up contact” about the region’s problems.
Livelsberger, a 37-year-old Green Beret from Colorado Springs, Colorado, served in the US Army since 2006 and deployed half to Afghanistan. He wrote in information found on his cellphone that he needed to” cleansing” his head of the boys he had lost and let go of the suffering of the life he had lost.
He also described the blast as a scene meant to draw attention to cultural issues, composing,” This was not a criminal attack”, adding,” Americans just pay attention to spectacles and crime. What better approach would I use lights and munitions to illustrate my point?
Seven people were only minorly hurt in the blast, which did not harm the Trump International Hotel. According to specialists, Livelsberger performed alone. His information mentioned a range of subjects, including social problems, societal problems, and problems such as the battle in Ukraine. In one word, he said that the US was “terminally poor and headed toward decline”.
Tesla professionals allegedly provided researchers with access to Livelsberger’s travel route from Colorado to Las Vegas, according to Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren of the municipal police department. Researchers are still reviewing a large amount of information, including clips, photos, files, and web history.
According to authorities, Livelsberger did not have any animosity toward Donald Trump, the US president-elect. In one word, he called for the state to “rally around” Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. At the time of the blast, neither Trump nor Musk were in Las Vegas.
Spencer Evans, an FBI special agent, described the incident as a murder committed by a battle veteran who was struggling with PTSD and other issues. Livelsberger died of a self-inflicted bullet wound. Researchers have not yet explained how he managed to commit suicide while detonating the bombs in the Cybertruck.
Products found inside the vehicle included two firearms, lights, a card, a military Card, credit accounts, and electronic devices. Both weapons were officially purchased.
Livelsberger had confided to a previous partner, Alicia Arritt, about physical and mental health problems, which she attributed to traumatic brain injury, media company AP reported. Livelsberger described his stress and pain in text messages shared by Arritt, saying it had become hard for him.
Livelsberger, who served in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia, and Congo, had just returned from Germany and was on permitted left at the time of his demise. He was given five Bronze Stars, a battle army symbol, and a valorous Army Commendation Medal.
Additionally, his Colorado Springs apartment was searched by authorities. He was described as a standard neighbor by neighbors who claimed he lived there with his wife and child.
The blast occurred days after another event in New Orleans, where Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar drove a vehicle into a throng, killing at least 14 individuals. The FBI is looking into the circumstances surrounding that event as a terrorist attack.
